Background & Experience

The Start: Banking to Education

Michael spent seven years as a financial analyst at one of Hong Kong’s major banks. He was good at it — the work was stable, the salary was solid. But he kept noticing something troubling. Talented professionals earning decent salaries would come to him completely stressed about money. They weren’t bad with finances. They just didn’t have anyone explaining the basics in a way that actually made sense.

That observation changed everything. He realized that financial education wasn’t really about being clever with numbers. It’s about giving people tools they can actually use. So in 2015, he made the leap into financial literacy education — and he’s never looked back.

Education & Research

While transitioning into education, Michael completed his MBA in Financial Management at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology while working full-time. His thesis focused on household financial behavior in high-density urban environments — basically, how people in Hong Kong actually handle money. It wasn’t abstract theory. It was real data about real problems. The research shaped everything he’d teach later.

Before that, he’d earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Hong Kong, where he first developed his interest in how financial systems affect everyday people.

Seven Years at Wealth Wise

Since joining Wealth Wise Limited in 2019, Michael’s developed comprehensive frameworks specifically for Hong Kong residents. He’s taught over 8,000 people. He’s been featured in Ming Pao and Hong Kong Economic Journal for his insights on household financial planning. But what he’s most proud of? The countless messages from former students saying they’ve finally got their finances under control.

His courses aren’t generic. They address real Hong Kong challenges — property costs that eat up 40% of income, navigating multiple financial systems, making sense of MPF options, and finding money to invest when rent is astronomical. He believes everyone deserves practical, actionable guidance regardless of income level.

How Michael Teaches

Michael’s teaching style is straightforward. No jargon. No assumptions that you already know what a mutual fund is. He uses real Hong Kong case studies because theoretical examples don’t help when you’re trying to figure out your actual rent payment.

1

Behavioral First

He doesn’t just teach numbers. He helps you understand why you spend the way you do, because that’s where real change starts.

2

Context Matters

Every example relates to Hong Kong’s specific situation — property costs, MPF, expat finances, whatever applies to you.

3

Immediately Applicable

You’re not learning abstract concepts. You’re learning things you can actually use starting this week.

4

No Income Gatekeeping

Whether you’re earning HK$20,000 or HK$200,000 a month, Michael believes you deserve quality financial guidance.

His courses have a reputation for being practical. You won’t find complicated spreadsheets or unrealistic assumptions. You’ll find frameworks that actually work for real people living real lives in Hong Kong.
